Val Guest

Five days ago, Val Guest died. He was the director of such notable films as The Quatermass Xperiment and The Abomidable Snowman (surely one of the few good Yeti movies.)

His works didn't have much impact on me a child, (unlike, say Roy Ward Baker), but as an adult I found the science fiction movies he directed to be most excellent. He had a talent for the craft that, while not as flashy or as deep as some, still rang true.

Both the Quatermass films he did (Xperiment and Quatermass II, aka Enemy from Space) are excellent.

The latter is one of the best depictions of paranoia on screen.

Yeah they are. But as good as they are, they don't hold a candle to "Quatermass and the Pit."

"Quatermass and the Pit" still manages to creep me out. Especially when they're viewing the alien "footage".
